In early October, Facebook announced that local businesses would be able to verify their Facebook Pages (currently available in US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand). Why? Well they say that it will make your Page appear higher in search rankings within Facebook. It’s also handy if for some reason, there’s multiple pages representing your business as this will show which one is the real-deal/the one people should interact with. It’s represented by the little grey tick below…

So how do you verify your local business Facebook page then?

It’s pretty slick. See lightening arrow on images for where to click…

1 – Click ‘Settings; on your Facebook Page

2 – In General, click edit beside Page Verification

3 – Click ‘Verify this Page’

4 – Fill in the details here…

Remember to drop the ‘0’ from the start of your number. The number must the one your business is registered with in public directories – most likely your landline. You can do this with a document too, but this is much quicker. Click continue!

5 – Wait for the call and try not to look as cheesy at this…

6 – Enter the code that the robot tells you and click continue

7 – Your request may need to be reviewed or it may come through immediately…

When I did it for Velocity it was instant, but for Brasserie Les Amis, it needed to be reviewed. Sit tight!

There you go, easy when you know how. A measure worth taking, especially as it takes little time to do.
